This week the students worked on printing the letter/g/ and /o/, as well as learning the sounds these letters make. I have the link to the songs for each letter on my Songs page. We also practiced the number 6. Please practice these at home with your child, make sure you say the poem as you write the number.
We read and acted out The Mitten by Jan Brett and did many mitten activities. We made matching mittens, mittens drying on a line. We measured ourselves with mittens. How many marshmallows does my hot chocolate have? Making snowmen and piling 'snow' We filled our table with water beads. The beads started off very small and hard, ask your child what happened when we added water. The students have been working on tens frames on the Smart Board. Go to illuminations.nctm.org - ten frame to try this at home. Our class had gymnastics for the past 2 weeks. We were able to learn many; stretches, movements and standing poses.
This week we learned the letter 'g' and the number '5'. We continued to look at snow and snowmen.
This week we worked on the letter 'm' and 'd'. We also worked on the number '4', it is very tricky so Please practice these at home. Here is the poem for the number 4. Say the poem as you print the number.
The students made snowmen out of felt shapes and recorded what shapes were used. Many students have returned their snowman homework project and the results are Amazing!! We made snowmen with the letters in our names, who has the most letters in their name?
This week we looked at snow flakes, how they are formed and how many of them have 6 sides. We used shapes to make snowflakes and stencils too.
Miss Jessica came in to talk to our kindergarten classes about whole body listening. Ask your child about listening with their: eyes, ears, body and heart. It is a very important lesson!
After our Winter Break, the children wrote in their journals about gifts they received this Christmas. We learned and practiced printing the number 3 and the letter 'r'. Please practice these at home. The children had the chance to play in the snow, inside our classroom. They build forts, snowmen and had an avalanche. They also got very wet mittens! But they were warm on such a cold day.
