This week we made apple sequence crowns; the children coloured, cut out and put the pictures in the correct order then we made a crown out of them. We read the story Ten Apples Up On Top and created our own 10 apples on our heads but to make it tricky we had to make a pattern with our 10 apples. There is a song about the story and I have included the link below. I also put out new building toys for busy hands, the children built awesome structures. Making Apple PieThe children helped to make apple pie on Wednesday. We peeled the apples using a peeler, cut the apples, added sugar, cinnamon and flour then put it in the pie shell and baked it. Some of the peels were as tall as the students. Thursday we ate the pie. YUM!! PatternsAs part of our kindergarten math curriculum we study patterns. The children will learn to extend and create patterns. This week I opened up the light table with coloured beads for them to explore with. Each student created a pattern and took a picture of it. Terry Fox RunFriday we did our annual Terry Fox run. Thank-you so much fro all of your donations.
This week we learned about apples; how they are made, what types there are and we even sorted and tasted the apples we brought in. The children played a game with dice, they matched the number and coloured the correct apple. JournalsThe children did their first entry in their journal today. They printed their name and drew a self portrait. It is always fun to look back in June to see how far they've come.
This week the children continued to work on recognizing and printing their name, thank-you for practicing at home. We had fine motor skills activities out during centers; cutting and using chopsticks to sort pompoms. International Dot Day is Sept.15We celebrated International Dot day by making our own dots and then putting them together to make a wave. The story is below if you'd like to watch it with your child. Me BagThe Me Bag was sent home Wednesday, please help your child put 3 or 4 items inside for your child to share with the class on their special day. I sent home a calendar with their names on it, if your child's name was not on the Sept. calendar then they will have their turn in Oct. Lost and FoundDo any of these belong to your child? I've asked the children but no takers. Please email me if they belong to your child. What a great first week we had in kindergarten. The children have been working on identifying their name, printing their name and practicing classroom expectations and routines. The children learned about all of the centers in our classroom. They went to music with Mrs.Paul, they have music Monday and Friday each week. The children had a chance to go to the park on Thursday and Friday this week, hopefully the weather stays warm and we can go out next week too. |
