This week our butterflies emerged from their chrysalises. We watched them pump fluid into their wings, stretch their wings and fly around the net. It was an awesome experience. We will let them go on Monday. During centers we turned our caterpillars into butterflies by adding beautiful wings and putting them into their chrysalis. The students did butterfly addition and made a cover for their memory book. Bird HousesOur Dads, Moms or loved ones came to school to build and paint bird houses. It was amazing fun! They turned out great. The students made a card to go with the bird house.
We have learned so much about insects: how many body parts they have and what those are called, they have no bones and some have wings, Ask your child about them. The students wrote in their journal about an insect and they completed lady bug math. CaterpillarsOur caterpillars have turned into the pupa stage of their life cycle, they are now in a chrysalis. We made chrysalises for our own caterpillars. We can't wait for them to turn into butterflies!! More centresFish Creek ParkWhat an amazing time we had today at Fish Creek Park. We saw; lots of caterpillars hanging from trees, trees that fell down in last night's storm, flowers, bugs, trees that had been chewed on by beavers, slugs, birds, squirrels and a deer. It was wonderful.
Safety DayThis week the children took part in Safety Day. Volunteers taught us how to cross the street correctly, where to cross the street and how to walk safely in a parking lot. Grade 4 students came to our room to talk about hand washing and germs. We talked about playground safety too. Caterpillars and InsectsOur caterpillars have grown SO much! They have eaten and eaten! We drew a picture of them in our observation book. The students made caterpillars with clothes pins and pompoms, we will turn them into butterflies soon, We completed some lady bug math and made our own Hungry Caterpillars. Centers |
