Our artist in residence this year is Sound Creation. Benny is teaching our class Step dancing. The children are really enjoying learning new dance moves and ways to use their body to "talk". Ask your child about how step dancing was invented. Hint- it was a form of communication for miners.
This week the children wrote their peers letters and put them in the mail box. They all enjoyed receiving mail from their friends. Many children made cards and letters for their parents and siblings as well. The afternoon class also made a police car out of a big box. There was even a computer, steering wheel, lights and radio.
Our first field trip was a huge success! We took a bus to the Inglewood Bird Sanctuary, for some it was their first bus ride, very exciting! Our class was in two groups so each group saw different birds. Both groups were lucky enough to see the great horned owl that lives in the park and many chickadees, who were very curious and followed us in the trees. We saw a woodpecker, magpies, deer tracks in the snow, a tree that a porcupine was chewing on, a beaver's fridge (fresh trees frozen in the river). Thank-you to all of our volunteers, it was an Amazing experience. Here are a few pictures from our trip.
Our classroom has been transformed into a doctor's office, veterinarian office, dental office, grocery store, construction zone and a mechanic station. The children are really enjoying exploring and dressing up like these professionals.
