This week we began to look at fairy tales, we will read Many fairy tales and fractured fairy tales, some are very funny! We started with 3 Little Pigs , The 3 Little Wolves and the Big Bad Pig and The True Story of the 3 Little Pigs. The students created their own houses made out of any substance they could imagine. Letters and NumbersThis week we practiced the letter /x/. The students continued to work on ways to make 10 and addition sentences.
I opened up a Tim Hortons this week. The children served hot chocolate and doughnuts. They decorated doughnuts and made chicks with play dough, this one even has an egg tooth to get out of its egg. LettersThis week we practiced the letter /v/ and making 10. Tracey KuffnerTracey Kuffner is a wool artist who has come to make wool stuffies with us. The wool we used is from sheep who live on her farm, she has 200. The children designed their animal and created the wool first by layering the fluffy wool, wetting and rolling it Many times, smashing it on the table and laying it out flat. It was a lot of work. Our volunteers cut out the patterns, glued and stuffed our animals. Bunny ArtThe students used different lines to make designs on our bunnies. BuddiesWe made chicks in a nest with our buddies this week.
The children were very excited to share what they had done on spring break. This week we used our sense of hearing to figure out what I hid in some eggs; a cotton ball, elastics, blocks, googlie eyes among a few other items. Anther center had eggs filled with a letter puzzle and a picture, the student had to unscramble to letters, write it in their egg book and draw a picture of it. They will continue to work on this center next week as well. Letter and NumbersWe practiced the number 10 and the letters /z/ and /w/ this week. The children also wrote in their journal about their spring break. In math we used red and white bean counters to explore different ways of making 10. Getting ready for Tracy KuffnerTracy Kuffner, the wool artist, will be coming to our classroom on Wednesday. Thank-you to those who are able to volunteer, its much appreciated! This week we designed our own stuffie which we will make next week. Ask your child what they are planning on making. We practiced making different kinds of lines for an art activity next week.
