We were very busy with pumpkins and owls this week but we also had some other new centres. We have rice in our sand table, we made faces with play dough, we learned the letter /i/ and /p/.
This week we continued to learn about owls and pumpkins. The children did a science experiment to see what happens when we mix yellow and red. The children then turned their finger paint experiment into our pumpkin patch. PumpkinsThis week the students learned about owls. We first talked about what the children already knew about owls. Then, we learned about their big eyes, their super great hearing, how they eat and that they regurgitate!! Yuck! Ask your child why they have such big eyes, and why can they turn their heads all the way around. We watched the story 'Owl Babies" and created our own tree with owl babies in it. Thank-you to the volunteers who helped the children with this project! In Our RoomThis week we learned a new letter, /t/. So we can read; sat and at! The children were very excited! We used the parachute in gym class which was a definite highlight. The children began to make faces with fun items too.
This week we explored pumpkins. The children listened to stories about pumpkins, learned the life cycle of a pumpkin, drew and colored pumpkins and decorated a pumpkin with leaf glitter. We even watched a video showing a pumpkin grow to be 405lbs! Jolly PhonicsWe have started the Jolly Phonics reading program in our classroom. The first sounds we learn are /s/and /a/. Please practice saying the sound, writing the lower case letter, as well as singing the song and doing the action for each letter learned. Here is a link for the songs. Michael MitchellMichael Mitchell came to do a presentation for us today. We loved the songs and dancing! He sings songs about Canada. Here is a video of him at another school so you can see how much fun it was. This week we discussed more about fall. The children used watercolor to create beautiful fall leaves. The leaves were to be painted in different colours. We talked about migration of birds too- Migration is a birds vacation! Terry Fox RunThe children took part in our Terry Fox Run on Monday. They were very tired, it was a long run! In our ClassroomPatterns, scarecrows, drawing turkeys, mat man, building block rockets, letters and journals about what we are thankful for.
