This week we had a lot of fun doing halloween activities and a special mitten art project for our upcoming fundraiser. Halloween day was a blur, we had gym and music so our centre time was short, your child was able to only do a couple of our special centres, ask them which on they did. This week we learned about pumpkins and their life cycle. We counted pumpkins, coloured them in a pattern and used 'leaf glitter' to make them beautiful, we did an experiment to see what would happen if we mixed yellow and red paint together, ask your child what happened. We turned our finger painting into awesome pumpkins for our pumpkin patch. LettersThis week we practiced /a/ . Please practice printing the letters and singing the songs. I have included the link to the songs we will learn throughout the year. This week we were exploring fall. We have leaves to smell, touch and crunch in our nature table, we have drawn leaves and painted them with water colors, made fall trees with modeling clay, painted trees at our paint centre and experimented with colors to try to match leaf colours.
LettersThis week we started our Jolly Phonics program. This program uses songs, stories and actions to teach children the letter sounds. We begin with the sound /s/, it is tricky to print so please practice at home. BuddiesWe made leaf gliders, also know as paper airplanes shaped like leaves. We took them outside to try them out and modify them if they needed it. It was a little breezy so some of the planes went very far.
This week we did lots of fall, turkey and Thanksgiving centres. We used paint in fall colours to make trees, built a tower, a zip line, a maze and much more. We talked about Thanksgiving and what we are thankful for.
Mat ManWe learned to use big line, little line, big curve and little curve to make our friend Mat Man. We use all 4 of these lines to create letters and numbers. This are pre-writing skills. We drew ourself on our name page and we practiced lines on chalkboards. JournalsThis week we talked about Thanksgiving and what we are thankful for. In our journals, each student drew a picture of what they were thankful for. Ask your child which journal is theirs. Super Hero DayOur annual Terry Fox Run was a huge success, our target fundraising goal was $1000 but we raised over $2800!! As a reward we got to dress up like super heros today.
This week in kindergarten we continued to learn about apples. We tasted 4 different kinds of apples, ask your child what their favorite was. We made apple pie, read Ten Apples On Top and created ten apples on top of our head using a pattern. Safety WeekSafety Week started with a visit from Shelley Steel. She gave us lots of great information about how to stay safe and what to do in case of a fire. Make sure you make an evacuation plan with your family, 2 ways out and find a meeting place.
