This week we are celebrating Carnival, the french winter celebration. We ate frozen maple sugar, made an ice castle, played winter sports and enjoyed hot chocolate. Thank-you so very much for all of the volunteers who were able to make this happen. The ice castle is Amazing!! Letters and NumbersThis week we practiced the letter /w/ and making numbers. We read the story "One is a Snail, Ten is a Crab" and the children drew pictures of animals and counted their feet. Here is the link to the slide show, https://www.slideshare.net/ismes/one-is-a-snail-ten-is-a-crab. More CentersThis week we talked about love and friends. What makes you a good friend? The children drew pictures in their journal about friends. We also worked on the number 6.
This week we had lots of heart centers out. The children made patterns, filled in the missing letters and made 10 in many ways. At the light table and the ten frame centre, the students worked with a partner to fill a ten frame with two different colored hearts/magnets. The partner then told the number sentence to go with it, ie; 4+6=10. Letters and NumbersWe practiced the number 5 in our journal and the letter /z/. Heart Math- the children had to sort a scoop of heart candies and write the correct number besdie the heart. Jim Dine HeartsThis week we looked at the art of Jim Dine and his many Heart creations. We are making our own using pastels and watercolor paint. I will post the finished product next week. First the children color hearts in with pastels then they use their finger and smudge the colors, next we will paint over the hearts. This week we practiced the letters /b/ and /j/ and the number 4. In gym, we started our basketball unit. The children began by using balls in a variety of ways: passing from hand to hand, moving the ball around their waist, head and legs, even in a figure 8. It was tricky! Next we work on dribbling skills. The students had a chance to use our Ipads to practice letters and numbers. BuddiesJournalsThe children wrote a sentence in their journal with a word that the same letter that their name starts with.
