This week we watched our caterpillars grow and we learned about metamorphosis, molting and the life cycle of a butterfly. In math, the children made caterpillars from 1-10 dots long using bingo dauber and they wrote the number word beside. It was a big job, we are getting ready for grade 1. The students made Jacob's ladder caterpillars out of paper and a clothes pin caterpillar which we will turn into a butterfly when our caterpillars turn into butterflies. We looked at butterflies and learned that they are symmetrical so we made beautiful butterflies with marker and paint.
This week we learned about 3D shapes. The children learned to identify 3D shapes and sort 2D and 3D shapes. We also had our field trip to the zoo, so exciting! CaterpillarsOur caterpillars have arrived!! They are So tiny but they will grow very fast. The children started their Butterfly Observation Book by drawing a scientific drawing of a caterpillar. They have begun to learn about the life cycle of a butterfly. Zoo Field TripWe had the most perfect day at the zoo today, it wasn't hot, it wasn't cold, it was just right!! We saw so many animals, ask your child all about it.
This week we learned about 2D shapes. Most of the children can name them already, great work! We traced, coloured and wrote the names of the shapes. We played shape bingo and will try dominos next week. At our light table there are shapes to build with. The children were excited to finish their stories so they could take home their stuffie. Letters and NumbersThis week we finished our last sound, /q/. So exciting!! The children also practiced the number 8 in our journal, GymThis week we worked on soccer skills. The children passed to a partner and tried dribbling the ball with the inside of their foot.
We continued to read Eric Carle stories and created our mural. It is beautiful! Each kindergarten student made a flower for it and they are adding butterflies, ants, birds and other animals that belong in a garden. Letter's and NumbersThis week we practiced /x/. It is tricky because it doesn't start words but it ends some. Mother's Day TeaWe made flowers, cards, bracelets and baked cookies in preparation for our Mother's Day Tea. The children danced and sang a song for our moms then we served them iced tea and cookies. Thank-you to all the moms who could make it, we loved sharing with you. Happy Mother's Day!!
