This week the children made snow flakes out of paper and sparkles. We did a snow experiment to see where our bowl of snow would melt the fastest. We made a hypothesis and drew a picture in our journal. Ask your child where the snow melted the fastest. Letter s and NumbersThis week we practiced the letter /b/. The children knew Lots of b words. Pink Shirt DayPink shirt day celebrates being kind to everyone! We read the book The Kindness Quilt and made our own kindergarten kindness quilt. Breakfast gameOur physiotherapist came to do a game with us to strengthen our core, some children do not have a strong core so it is hard for them to sit on the carpet. She suggests doing this game once a day. It only takes a minute and really works! I have shared it so you can do it at home too. Carnival is a french winter tradition, we have fun celebrating it at Janet Johnstone! The children each brought in an ice block for our ice castle, they tried maple candy at the Sugar Shack, we played outdoor winter sports and enjoyed hot chocolate, we even got to meet Bonhomme! Letters and NumbersThis week we practiced the letter /f/ and the number 5 in our journal. The children drew a picture of their favourite part of Carnival. BuddiesWe made polar bears with our buddies.
It was only a 3 day week, we did Valentine's Day activities. We did sorting math and made mail boxes for our cards. Our 'house' centre is a Tim Hortons, lots of yummy doughnuts to serve our friends. This week we finished up discussing Chinese New Year and started Valentine's Day/ Friendship Day. We will be having a Friendship Day Celebration on Wed.Feb.13, if your child would like to bring cards for their friends please have them sign Only their name on them, we have 22 friends. We created art projects inspired by Jim Dine, he loves to use hearts in his work. Letters and NumbersThis week we practiced /u/ and the number 4. The children have to write the word, the number, draw 4 items and label their drawing. It is a lot of work but they are doing great!!
