This week we focused on letters and numbers. The children practiced the letters /f/ and /b/ and the number 9. Snowy DayWe read the story 'Snowy Day' and did an art activity using glue and shaving cream. Look at the tracks we made. CentersIn gym, we learned basketball skills: dribbling, passing and shooting. It was tricky but we all got better BuddiesThis week we made shamrocks with our buddies using our fingers. So fun!

This week we continued to learn about Chinese New Year. We went on a parade to show off our dragon masks and lanterns. Letters and NumbersThe children practiced the letter /l/. In math, the students played two games. The Number Racing game; first the player makes a prediction and then they use dice to see which number would make it to the top first. Hockey Dominos; the two players randomly choose a domino and flip it over using one side they decide who has the 'greater' number, that player wins the dominos. First player to 10 wins. Ask your child what happens if the dominos are equal!
It was only a three day week but we packed it full!! CarnavalCelebrating Carnaval is a tradition at Janet Johnstone School. We build an ice castle, have Cabane a Sucre, play winter sports and learn about Quebec culture. Valentine's DayWe celebrate by learning about what it is to be a good friend. Lots of hearts and love! Chinese New YearIt's the Year of the Dog. The children learned about some Chinese customs for celebrating the new year; lanterns, dragon dance, writing characters, cleaning, getting hair cuts and that red and gold are lucky and bring good fortune.
This week the children did some valentine's day themed centers and activities. We made patterns, sorted and counted candy hearts, and played a game with dice and hearts. The students identified the initial letter sounds in some valentine words/pictures. Letters and NumbersThis week we practiced the letter /o/ and /u/ and the number 8. OlympicsWe made olympic torches with our buddies today.
