This is a very short 3 day week, with interviews on Thursday. We learned about Chinese New Year. The students; practiced making Chinese characters, made lanterns, counted gold coins and put them in red envelopes, coloured, and played with Chinese food and chop sticks at our house centre. We started to make masks and cherry blossom pictures which we will finish next week. I brought in some snow so the children could explore the snow. Letters and NumbersWe practiced the letter /o/ and the number 3 in our journal.
We read the story The Mitten, by Jan Brett. The children have acted it out many times using head bands, they have also retold the story during centre time using rocks and a white mitten, ask your child to tell you the story. The children drew a picture of an animal they wanted to see crawl in the mitten. They decorated a mitten to add to their sheet. You'll see them all next week during interviews. Numbers and LettersThis week the children practiced the letter /g/ and the number 2. We continued to learn about greater than/more in class, the children completed a domino math sheet for this activity. Movement with a MessageDuring our gym time this week we were fortunate enough to take part in hip hop dancing. We learned; the bounce, the DJ, the MC, and let it rain.
In kindergarten this week our theme was snowmen. We used sponges and paint to create snowmen, the students used their name to make a snowman and count how many letters they have in their name. The weather cooperated and it snowed!! We went outside to look at the snow with magnifying glasses too. Letters and NumbersThis week we practiced the letter /d/ and number one in our journal. We also played Domino Hockey. BuddiesLast Friday we made snowflakes using attribute block shapes with our grade 4 buddies. Snowman ProjectHere are the snowmen that I have received so far, great work everyone!! They all look amazing. Send it in when you have completed yours.
Winter is finally here, I think...Although there is little snow outside, we've been learning about it in our classroom. Ask your child how many sides every snowflake has. This week the students completed lots of snowman activities. We have a snowman factory, played a game to draw snowmen. learned a poem about a chubby snowman which is in your child's yellow poetry notebook. Poetry NotebookEach Thursday this yellow duotang will come home with your child. We learn a new poem each week, please practice the poems with your child and return it each Monday. Letters and NumbersThis week we began by reviewing the letters, sounds and numbers that we learned before Christmas. We also practiced the letter /m/ and number 10. During journals, the students shared their favourite moment from winter break. It was wonderful to hear about all of the adventures you had. Ask your child what they drew in their journal. Snowman ProjectOn Wednesday your child brought home a snowman project. Please help your child make the snowman into Anything they want. This is for you to do together, not homework for parents :) so please have your child help. We read the book Snowballs to get inspiration, it is bellow. In the past I've had a; Batman, Spiderman, princess, cat, dog, mermaid, Hulk, ninja turtle, butterfly...have your child use their imagination. When you have completed it, no hurry, please send it back to school for our bulletin board. They will be up for our parent conferences at the end of the month. |
