This week the students worked on their paper mache penguin with their buddy, designed and created a penguin habitat and made a macaroni penguin planter. We can't wait until the wheat grass grows, you can eat it! CentersWe practiced the number 7 in our journals, fed our penguins green and yellow fish and had new animals to tell stories with.
This week, we continued to learn about penguins. We watched videos and read stories about how penguins hunt and what they eat. Ask your child! The children made a penguin book which the children drew pictures and wrote numbers in. We also did a project with our buddies making a penguin out of their feet last week which is now on our bulletin board. Today we starting a paper mache project with our buddies. Letters and numbersWe practiced the letter /y/ this week. The children began a math activity in which they created a picture of a penguin eating yellow and green fish. They needed to count the fish and write the correct number on their picture. We built with soft blocks and play dough. In gym, we are using rackets. We balanced a bean bag, flipped it like a pancake and then tried to pass it to a partner.
This week we started learning about penguins. Did you know penguins live all over the world? Not just in the ice and snow! Ask your child where else they live. Which penguin is the biggest? How do they take care of their babies? Who takes care of the emperor penguin's egg? Letters, Numbers and CentersBesides our many penguin centers, we practiced the letter /v/, learned about "greater than" using hockey and dominos. Ask your child what happens if both players have the same number. Our house center is a McDonalds! The children get to take orders, fill the orders, be a diner and clean up. Some children even made money and french fries to go in the center. It's a big hit! In gym we have finished basketball and have moved on to racket sports. The children balanced a ball on a racket. It was very tricky!
