This week we finished our community helpers unit by drawing a picture of what we want to be when we grow up. The students played a math game with dice, bean counters and a ten frame; they had to tell how many they rolled and then how many more to make ten. Our light table had shapes to make letters with. The children drew a picture in their journal of their favorite centre. Letters and NumbersThis week we practiced /e/ and the number 6. The students also did some math worksheets to show how many numbers they know. I made a number line on the floor and the students had to put the numbers in correct order on the line.
This week we had a visit from the dentist, a construction worker and a police officer. The dentist showed us how to brush our teeth, for 2 minutes, we even got a timer in our goodie bag from her. The construction worker let some volunteers help screw together some metal pieces and feed some wire through it. He showed us his tools he uses to keep himself safe, ask your child what they are. Constable Gemma Baker came to tell us about being a police officer and how we can keep ourselves safe and what to do in case of an emergency. We had lots of new centres out this week as well. Letters and NumbersThis week we practiced the letters we have already learned by playing sound Bingo and introduced /k/ sound, made by c and k. The students learned the number 5, it's a tricky number to print.
This week we continued to learn about community helpers. We had a visit from an RCMP officer and an EMT. The children made chef hats and paper pizzas, they counted each of the toppings on their pizza. We put baby teeth on a picture and made an x-ray of our hand. There were lots of new centres, even a florist. Letters and NumbersThis week we practiced the number 4 and the letter /p/.
We have begun our unit on Community Helpers. It is very Exciting! We have a doctor's office including a reception area, a mouth to put play dough teeth on, a grocery store, and making a badge centre. On Thursday we have a fire fighter come in to talk to us about fire safety and their job. Letters and NumbersThis week we practiced the letter /i/ and the number 3.
Wow! You sure can get a lot done in a 5 day week! We had lots of new centres out for owls and pumpkins. We practiced the number 2 on chalkboards then in our printing book. The students made a pumpkin patch and an owl picture. We made owl babies, like the story we watched on youtube, Owl Babies. The students hammered golf tees onto pumpkins on the letter P for pumpkin. HalloweenOur Halloween party was great fun! We started the day with a scavenger hunt in partners which I chose to give the children a chance to make a new friend. The children cleaned out pumpkins, carved faces on them and made bracelets. We kept on of the pumpkins to make pumpkin pie!! Yum! BuddiesToday we met our grade 4 buddies. We did an owl craft using our hands and then we shared the pumpkin pie that we made with them. Ms.Knight came in a made the pie with us. I took home the cleaned out pumpkin and cooked it, then we made the pie Thursday and ate it on Friday. It was delicious!!
