This week we practiced the letter /z/ and mixed colors making beautiful designs. The children really enjoyed mixing the different colours to make new colours. The children continue to create stories in our block centre with the stuffies they made themselves. We still have more work to do with them. I know the children Really want to take them home, not yet...
We also have been very busy getting ready for our Mother's Day Tea coming up. The children are very excited!! We had Safety Day this week. The children did different stations: pedestrian safety, crossing the road, sidewalk safety, parking lot safety and playground safety. Most of the children already knew many of the tips from our volunteers shared.
This week we watched our beans grow!! They are amazing! We started talking about rainbows; how are they formed, what order are the colours are in. The children practiced the letter /j/.
The children had an Amazing experience this week! They got to make their very own stuffed animal with Tracey Kuffner. She brought in wool from her own sheep. There were so many different colours to chose from. The children made the felt from wool, they chose a base colour and then added eyes, a nose and details. The next step was to wash the wool by rolling it in a blind 5 times. The felts were then laid out to dry and the animal body parts were traced on. Our wonderful volunteers glued and stuffed the bodies. The children then added all of the legs, mouths, whiskers and details. They look Great!! Next week the children will draw a picture in their journal and write stories about their animal.
This week we read "Jack and the Beanstalk". We planted some bean seeds in a plastic bag with a wet paper towel and taped it to our window. Hopefully next week we will see some roots and a stem! The children drew a scientific drawing in their journal of the bag and seeds.
The children are exploring 2-dimentional (flat) and 3-dimentional (fat) shapes. We have discussed the similarities and differences between the shapes. They are learning to name and describe many shapes. In class, we read many versions of "The 3 Little Pigs". The children retold the story and made the three houses.
